Braulio Montoya
University: California State University, Sacramento
Braulio is a first-generation college student, proudly rooted in his family’s Mexican immigrant heritage. Growing up, Braulio experienced firsthand the challenges of inadequate housing. Because of this, he recognizes how impactful such affordable housing and social support could have been.
During his time in college, Braulio worked on a research project focusing on the struggles faced by the unhoused population in his hometown of Sacramento, particularly the lack of affordable housing. His work involved interviewing individuals from the community and presenting his findings to peers, deepening his understanding of the issue and fueling his passion for proactive community involvement.
As a participant of the CCRH Rural Housing Internship Program, Braulio is committed to using his experiences to benefit low-income families and communities facing housing challenges. He aims to develop lifelong project management skills and gain new perspectives that will serve him both personally and professionally. After completing the internship, Braulio plans to continue his education at Sacramento State University, where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
