Kirti Kaur is a first-generation college student at the University of California, Davis, pursuing a double major in human development and psychology. Coming from a resilient Punjabi immigrant family, Kirti's journey has been shaped by the challenges of living in a mixed-status household and experiencing housing instability firsthand. Recognizing her family’s housing challenges at a young age inspired her deep commitment to making affordable housing accessible for underserved rural and immigrant communities.

 

Kirti has actively contributed to her community by assisting immigrant families in applying for low-income housing. Fluent in multiple languages, she has played a crucial role in bridging communication gaps, navigating complex application processes, and advocating for families' needs. Kirti's volunteer work at a local elementary school further honed her skills in communication and empathy, and also deepened her understanding of the socio-economic factors affecting children’s education and well-being.

 

Kirti is passionate about exploring sustainable housing solutions that not only address affordability but also enhance community well-being and resilience. She aspires to work in community development, with a focus on the intersection between health and housing. Kirti aims to develop the skills necessary to create safe, enriching living environments for all.
